HISTORY:
The Kewpie Doll is a symbol of cuteness.
They are based on an early 20th century design by American Rose O'Neill. Rosie created a comic strip in 1909 and went on to create paper cut out figures. The comic strip characters were baby cupid figures. The origin of the name Kewpie is derived from the word Cupid.
The comic strip inspired porcelain dolls from Germany and later, after WWII, plastic versions were made in Japan.
Kewpie dolls became a global phenomenon, finding popularity in the United States, Australia, Japan, and other regions.
